- 1815  It is said that Captain D'Orsennons with a considerable party, left Fort William in the Autumn, and reached Fort Douglas in Red River settlement about the 10th January.
- 1935  The colony of Assiniboia, as it was officially called, or the Red River Settlement, as it was popularly known, was made up of a population of about 11,500 souls divided into sections: French or Catholics, and English, generally Protestants, the former slightly predominating.
